Last month launched one the series of this fall season I was most excited about: Scream Queens. The show was created by Ryan Murphy, the same creator of Glee and American Horror Story. As American Horror Story, the new series is an anthology, which means that each season will tell a different story. In this first season, we’ll see the story of a series of murders that occur in a university.
The art direction, especially the costumes design area, did an impeccable job with fancy clothes full of plumes and sparkles. (I already want to steal some pieces for me). The performances, in general, are good. Especially Emma Roberts who was born to play bitches and Niecy Nash who plays Denise, the queen of the series.
The series is purposely trash and with stereotypical characters, openly criticizing the modern society and horror movies. One of the best and most memorable scenes so far is the killing of a character that, instead of running away and trying to save itself, runs for the computer and tweet for help.
Despite the numerous hilarious scenes, the show manages to keep a light thriller with each character having a reason to be the possible killer, besides having some twists. If Mean Girls and Scary Movie had a kid, this kid would be Scream Queens. With many pop culture references, sometimes even too many, the series makes fun of itself and doesn’t take itself too seriously, so you shouldn’t either.
